 February Newsletter

“Let us love one another.”  1 John 4:7

Happy February!

This is an exciting month beginning with our celebration of Groundhog’s Day on Thursday. (You should have already received a note about this.) Please have your children wear their pajamas because they will be doing some winter hibernating just like the groundhogs, bears, and other animals.   Send along a stuffed Teddy bear or another stuffed (hibernating) animal for pretend play.  When they wake up, we will have a Teddy Bear Tea with Teddy Grahams for the children and Honeycomb (cereal) for our Teddy Bear friends.   We will also enjoy having cheese pizza in our pajamas at lunchtime.  I will provide the snacks and pizza that day, but please send along your child’s regular water drink and lunch extras like fruit or something that they will like with the pizza.  If your child does not eat pizza, just send along their regular lunch.  Thanks.

Valentine’s Day is a day for wearing red or pink!  You should have received a list with the names of all the children in our class for addressing Valentines at home. Please help your child make a Valentine mailbox out of a shoebox at home. Enjoy the time together.  Cut a rectangular hole in the top so the children can mail each other their Valentines.  Please send it in with your child’s Valentines to mail on the day of the party. I will have a sign-up list on our bulletin board soon for food to send in or bring in for the party or you could send me a note listing what you would like to contribute.  Thank you for your contributions in advance.  If you are able, come join us around 12:45 p.m. and share the fun with us.

During our month of February and into March we will be learning about community helpers including postal workers, the dentist, fire fighters and police as well as many others. I do have one homework assignment related to our emergency workers and our core knowledge skills for February.  We will introduce calling 911 at school but I would like you to teach your child how to call 911 on your own phone or cell phone, in the case of an emergency.  You could even practice this during pretend play in your own home.  Does your child know his/her last name and address to tell the emergency operator?  Does your child know where to locate your phone or cell phone?  Of course we do not want to scare the children, but by teaching them and acting it out, we are enabling them to act with confidence in case there ever is a real emergency at your home.

Mrs. Pessarra and I continue to enjoy working with your children and watching them grow in so many ways.  We look forward to sharing with you at our conferences coming up in March.

With love in Christ,

Laurie Harro
